Why does a rental application ask for your checking account number?
I am pretty sure you do not need a checking account number to do a credit check. Also, this rental application is not going to the potential landlord himself, I haven’t even met him or her yet. They are going through a well known and respected realtor. Do you think they will check the balance, or do they just want to know I have an account?
They just want to know of you have an account.
For the answer that stated that they would never give their account numbers out – the checking account number is printed along the bottom of every check. Any time you hand over a check, you are giving the account number out!
